Round-up of Travel News and Deal Advice
August 19th, 2009 Posted in Cheap Asia Travel, Cheap Latin America Travel, General, Long-term travelOn deadline for some articles right now, so I’m linking to useful info from elsewhere.
Over at Transitions Abroad, Nora Dunn looks at the motivation for long-term travel, profiling six people/couples/families who have been on the move for years.
The editor of International Living flits back and forth between homes in Mexico and Ecuador. Here’s his mouth-watering photo and description of a $5 lunch for two in Ecuador. (Oh, and roses are $1 a dozen by the way. Think of that figure next February 14 when you are ponying up $60 for your sweetheart.)
Lonely Planet editor (and Perceptive Travel contributor) Robert Reid gives us the lowdown on experiencing the Mekong Delta without going on a group tour. The Travel in the Know blog gives us places to take great photos in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
The BestTravelDeals.net blog has published a cool fees and requirements chart for U.S. airlines. You can pick out Southwest in a hurry: it’s the one with lots of zeros in the fee columns.
It’s not all bad news for critters. More than 350 new plants and animals have been discovered in the Himalayas in the past few years according to this World Wildlife Fund report. That includes “the world’s smallest deer.”
The Vagabonding Blog has a rundown on what two round-the-world travelers spent total on their trip, with links to drill down to what they spent by country. The lesson? Be sure to have a cushion for unexpected problems.
