After five attempts on different days, I finally found cheap flights for three across Mexico. The solution involves a bus ride and a taxi, but we save $100 each in the end and get a direct flight, so worth it.

After juggling dates and moving around arrangements, I cashed in miles for two flights to Ecuador this autumn.

After being told by American Airlines that she had to be stuck in Dallas for three days, my mother is on her way to visit me in Mexico this afternoon.

After visiting four different booking sites and not being satisfied with the hotel prices I was seeing for San Miguel de Allende, I picked up a guidebook instead. I booked two nights direct in a perfect place in the center for $50 less than the booking engines were showing, even though it’s a festival weekend.

Sometimes bad news is bad news and you have to accept it. More often, there’s a second right answer if you keep approaching from a different angle.

Budget travelers are resourceful and creative, which is why you should hire them when they get back from traveling.
