Another Election? Travel Book of the Year
November 13th, 2008 Posted in Cheap Latin America Travel, Leffel projects, contestsPlaneta.com is running their annual book of the year award and one of the titles nominated is Traveler’s Tool Kit: Mexico and Central America.
It’s a fine travel planning guide if I may say so myself, so I’ll beg for your consideration with a clear conscious. Plus I am not just tooting my own horn: Rob Sangster put much of the book together, drawing on three previous editions that weren’t focused on any specific geography. We’d both be thrilled if you can carve 30 seconds out of your day to go to the contest page and vote for it. (Scroll down and click where it says “Voting is now open.”) Do it before the end of November though because thankfully this is not a two-year election cycle.
My last book, Make Your Travel Dollars Worth a Fortune, got nominated in ‘06 but I got beat out by a Lonely Planet title, Code Green. Maybe without their vast organization up against us there’s a chance this time, especially since Moon has to split their votes between two titles. Thanks!
Yeah, they will ask for your e-mail address when you vote, but no worries, it’s Planeta. They’re all about responsible tourism and the exchange of ideas, so they don’t believe in sending you any garbage you don’t want. But if you check in there every once in a while, you might find some good ideas and travel sources. Plus they bring attention not just to books, but to people doing good work—like the very nice Ecotourism Laos website.

I have no chance to read Traveler’s Tool Kit: Mexico and Central America as I have no plan to visit the area in the nearby future, but if it’s as good as Make Your Travel Dollars Worth a Fortune you are going to be the winner. Good luck!
