Beijing Not Sold Out for the Olympics

Beijing Olympics

Much of the discussion in the media about the Beijing Olympics has been about who will or won’t show up, the Olympic torch debacle, and whether you need a pollution mask for the opening ceremonies.

The story now starting to emerge, perhaps as a result of all this, is that the host city is far from sold out this summer. As this Wall Street Journal report notes, Beijing hotels face a glut of rooms. (Apparently the locals aren’t too thrilled about the silly mascots pictured here either, but that’s a different story.)

So, if you aren’t too put off by the crowds and can hold your nose when it comes to the politics, check out this Beijing Olympics Guide for info on where to stay and how to navigate the game tickets. More rooms than guests is always a good thing if you’re a guest and if you’ve ever wanted to get some last-minute event tickets, it’s probably going to be easier here than in years past.

And hey, if you own your own business or are a contractor of some sort, you can surely find a way to write off a visit to China on your taxes, right?

i have family who are traveling to the games from Canada. they say the cost of a hotel room for the games is doping after it was over 500% higher then usual.
