A Definitive Guide to U.S. Airline Fees
July 6th, 2008 Posted in General, Travel industry, Vacation deals
The experts at SmarterTravel, Airfare Watchdog, and SeatGuru have published a handy printable guide to all the extra airline fees the U.S. carriers are tacking on. As expected, taking Southwest Airlines and avoiding the rest whenever possible looks to be the best strategy if you hope to avoid getting socked with multiple fees.
(Or you can slow down and take the train. Or forget the U.S. entirely and travel in Mexico or Central America.)
This does not include the fees frequent fliers are encountering when they try to cash in their reward ticket (hint–they’re not even close to “free” anymore on lousy carriers like USAir) and it doesn’t include Air Canada, which has its own formidable menu of extra charges. SmarterTravel says an international version may follow.
P.S. - If you aspire to be in management at a legacy U.S. airline, you can get a copy of the book pictured here, but it is out of print so you’ll have to pay at least $150 to get it used.
