Bargain destinations and the cheapest places to travel

Guatemala, Family Style

June 6th, 2007 Posted in Cheap Latin America Travel, Destination reports

I arrived in Guatemala a week ago but haven’t posted on here yet because it’s not easy. First of all, I have a wife and daughter in tow, but more importantly, posting to a blog from Internet cafes while using a foreign keyboard is no picnic. Take my word for it.

I am getting a rather odd picture of Guatemala too since I’m moving family style. Decent hotels, shuttles rather than the chicken buses, and trying to pick restaurants based on where a picky little one and a vegetarian wife can both eat. Carefree backpacker days these are not.

Staying with a host family while we do a Spanish immersion course though, so getting my share of grungy and cheap there. My pitiful Spanish is getting better, thankfully. More to come, but here is a nice picture of Tikal anyway.
