Not Just Me: US Air Really Does Suck
May 15th, 2007 Posted in Travel industryBack in March I commented on my rare trip on USAir, which was really quite bad even by the standards of today’s U.S. airline industry. Apparently they weren’t just having a bad day: your chances of everything going smoothly with them are about 56 percent.
That was the airline’s rate of arriving on time in March, according to this USA Today article. Only 56 percent of its flights arrived when they were supposed to (though maybe not, like mine, because the crew overslept.) It doesn’t stop there though. They scored a hat trick of the worst rate of mishandled baggage and the most complaints overall, far ahead of all rivals. To show you how bad they really were in comparison to someone who gets it right, US Airways had 4.43 complaints per 100,000 boarding and Southwest had 0.25.
Figure twice that many passengers at least are annoyed, but don’t make an official complaint. Maybe they just, oh, I don’t know, write about it on a blog for thousands to read instead…

I didn’t know their nickname until recently, but they’re apparently called “Useless Airways” for a reason.
