Quick Getaway Tips
April 4th, 2007 Posted in Cheap Europe Travel, Vacation deals, Work/Life/Travel BalanceIf that headline sounds like it came out of a magazine, well, it’s because you see it just about every month or two in at least one on the newsstand. I was just quoted in one that ran in Women’s Health, a travel roundup called “easy going” (yes, lower case because it’s cuter), “WH’s stress-free, money-saving guide to making a great escape.” The whole thing is written in that spastic, chirpy style that women’s magazines seem to love (as does Men’s Health, which is almost a women’s magazine), but there are some good tips and links buried in the overload. So if you see the April issue in your doctor’s office or you’re killing time in the bookstore, check it out.
Unfortunately, it’s not online so I can’t link to it. Only the important stuff is online, such as “”Tight Abs, Toned Arms, Lean Legs” and “Secrets to Amazing Sex.”
Here’s one piece of timely advice that’s worth repeating though. If the direct flight prices to Europe are daunting, fly to the cheapest place and then get a cheap inter-Europe flight to your final destination. Check whichbudget.com or flybudget.com. Just leave the eight pairs of shoes at home as anything over the minimal luggage allowances will cost you. Their gear choices are pretty good ones too, including the Solio hybrid charger, which I need to check out one of these days. (Just not in pink.)
My comment was a reply to the oldie but goodie, “I can’t afford it.” So how come the people I know who travel the most are never the ones with the most money?
In the end, I’m just glad to see a popular women’s magazine encouraging their readers to think about something besides their looks and their diet. And here’s a nice parting thought. “Women who take a breather only once in two years are more like to suffer depression and tension than women who go away twice or more a year.” Two years of Prozac will cost you $1,920, they note. That would pay for quite a nice vacation.
