I can't give you my vote without having to give a look to Perin's blog :P However, you have already been given the favour by judges. That's pretty kool dude.

Hi Tim,

Celebrity schmelebrity. Apologies for the delay in answering your comment (which I only just saw today); I'm finding it a lot harder to navigate blogospheric back-and-forth than to navigate, say, Syria.

Belated thanks for your nice words about my column (which I've barely had time to write lately, given how many hours the blog sucks up). Sorry that registering to post a comment is a pain in the neck. It wasn't my idea! Apparently CondeNet (Conde Nast's online arm) is working on easing the registration process: Soon all that will be required to post a comment is name, password, and email address.

I totally agree with you about the authenticity of the good travel blogs. I only wish I had more time to read them!

Cheers,
Wendy Perrin

Wendy,

Wow, this is the equivalent of a celebrity visit in the travel blogging world! Thanks. I really do read your column first when I open up Conde Nast Traveler--not just sucking up. Yes, it looks like we all got out-stuffed on the Travvies, so my predictions of corporate front-runners was misplaced. (My second bet would have been SmarterTravel.)

Loved your comment about the lawyers making you fear what you can get away with. Obviously we lone rangers in our pajamas with nobody to answer to don't have to worry about that. Actually we don't worry about being edited period, which is also part of the appeal. I just responded to my fourth set of questions from a copy editor for a magazine story that's less than 800 words long. Unreal. On here I write that much every day or two and it's done. Not as chirpy and cutesy I suppose, but what I read on good travel blogs seems more authentic than the over-edited prose between the Jaguar and Rolex ads.

Then there's the issue with your blog that people have to give all kinds of personal info to the Concierge.com empire in order to post a comment. Grrrrr.

Hi Tim,
Thanks so much for your kind words about me, and I'm sorry I didn't see them or respond earlier (only painfully slowly am I learning my way around the blogosphere). I'm amused by something you wrote:

"With the Conde Nast empire’s ability to out ballot-stuff little ole me a hundred times over, my money would be on that one, with me being the very dark horse in this race."

Well, it would seem the one-man band Cranky Flier has more sway in the blogosphere than the Conde Nast empire, huh? You might be interested in a recent post I wrote along these lines: http://www.concierge.com/cntraveler/blogs/perrinpost/2007/03/in_my_six_month.html

Although I only discovered your blog recently, I'm really enjoying it. Keep up the great work, and better luck to us both next year!
