Gift Shopping for a Traveler

November 26th, 2006 Posted in General, Long-term travel, Travel gear

travel gearTis the season and all that, as of about…now. So what do you get for that traveler on your list? If you’re ordering online, time to hop to it.

If the recipient on your list is a backpacker, some small and light travel gear is usually a good bet, so here are some coupons and deals:

Save $35 on any purchase of $150 at eBags.com

Magellan’s is offering free shipping on orders over $50 through December 1.

Free shipping on entire order at Overstock.com through Christmas.

For ideas on what works well, check out the Practical Travel Gear blog.

If that future traveler on your list isn’t leaving for a while, or they are going abroad to work or study, how about really helping them to learn the language? I’ve tried a lot of methods and can say the Rosetta Stone program is quite impressive. Rosetta Stone: Get 10% Off + Free Ground Shipping OR + Free Headset.

It’s hard to go wrong with a book and there are some good travel book recommendations here for the long-term vagabond. Don’t forget that it’s a rare travler who can’t use a gift certificate from Amazon:
Amazon US
Amazon UK
Amazon Canada

If you’re the traveler giving a gift, a phone card for the relatives might be a nice touch. This assumes you are somewhere you can be reached at some point, but if so, give them a phone card that allows cheap calls to anywhere in the world. Sign up with Pingo and you get $5 of free calls.

Okay, enough of the ho ho ho hoing. Next post we return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Another great gift is to purchase tickets for flights from EconomyTravel.com. They offer up to 60% off published one-way fares…..
