HallidayIf you haven’t read anything by Ayun Halliday, get yerdamnself to a bookstore and plop down ten or twelve bucks. You’ll smile and laugh a lot, which is good for your health. You can even choose between travel misadventures, dead-end jobs, or the lack of cooking prowess.

The last of these is the the new book, Dirty Sugar Cookies. It just came out and you can read a little sampling in the current issue of Perceptive Travel. There’s a fun excerpt, “Monkey Brains and Mangosteens.”

Ayun is proof that you don’t have to be a wandering loner with commitment issues in order to find and write engaging stories—travel or otherwise. So she’s inspiration to those of us who think balance is possible, even if the balance does seem to be on the brink at times…
