The outdoors in St. George, Utah

Last week was kind of quiet on here because I was enjoying a bit of the wild west, USA, for the first time. I spent a few days in St. George, Utah, a great place for outdoor activities and fiery scenery. It’s only a two-hour drive from Las Vegas, so easy access to a strange new world.
I banged myself up a bit at the end of a two-hour mountain biking session, but it was incredible anyway. The hiking is fantastic all around the area and I tried my hand at rock climbing. There are plenty of sheer cliffs just waiting to be scaled.
The pictures say more than I could with words, but it was a reminder to me of how much there is to see and do on the home front. (Shots of Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon coming up later.) You’ve got to get up early here to do all this—the temperature passed 100 degrees F, 38C in the afternoons.
Traveling in the U.S. is going to mean cramped flights this summer though–predictions are that the middle seat may be open on overseas flights since international capacity has increased, but domestic flights are going to be packed out. My flight home was 100% full and it’s only May.
