Europe in the Summer? Hope You’re Loaded…

Will Europe be less expensive this summer?
The answer, of course, is no.
Europe will be even pricier this summer than it was last summer–and last summer set all kinds of records. Flights are more, hotels are more, food costs more, gas/petrol costs more, and the dollar is still in the dumps in exchange with the pound and euro.
Judging by the wildly unsuccessful attempts to change the labor laws in France, service isn’t going to get any better either–that rude waiter is not going to get fired, no matter how bad he is, so what does he care whether you’re happy or not?
The article link above provides the standard advice on going in May or September instead, plus all the sensible things like flying budget airlines within Europe, booking hotels in dollars from the U.S., renting a car with manual transmission, yada yada yada.
Here’s the one piece of advice that will truly save you a bunch of money though: “Head to off-the-beaten-path destinations in Eastern Europe. While flights may not be cheaper, in-country costs are likely to be less expensive, and there will be fewer tourists.” Well, not any fewer tourists in Prague or Krakow so much, but in the rest of Eastern Europe that’s still mostly true. Or you can go a tad south and hit Turkey instead.
