A lot of people don't want to spend the time and effort to get the deals..they much prefer to do a "one stop shop" as it were. Are those the people who will get the most out of the trip? Probably not. I'm off the Nepal November 2009 with my two brother-in-laws for the Annapurna Circuit trek and we are doing it all ourselves when we get there. I guess it all depends on your personality really.

You can find a local agency to help you organise what you want to do once your there...also helping locals (just make sure that they are reliable and registered!) I wouldn't right them off straight away like Sean suggests.
